Sound recording classes (age 5+)
This class is aimed at entry-level students. Lessons utilise the ‘GarageBand’ software on handheld portable devices (smartphones or tablets) to teach students how to record sound and edit audio. Students bring their own devices from home (iPhones and iPads preferred) and will be taught to use the software effectively for both fun and to practice effectively. Great classes for parents and children to learn together.
This class features instruction on effective usage of sound effects such as reverb, delay, distortion and many others.
At the end of this classes, students will be proficient in effectively applying sound effects to sound recordings and audio tracks.
Students will use piano rolls to program different sounds, in editing, and in manipulation of audio tracks.
At the end of the class, students will be able to create loops effectively program music using piano loops.
Students will also receive popular pieces of music to practice their piano roll programming at home. Further instruction will be given on how to remix their own songs from these transcriptions.
This class focuses on remixing popular songs (DJ’ing)
Using basic editing skills, students will be taught the principles behind remixing songs and creating their own versions of songs, just like their favourite DJ!
This class teaches students to make beats (hip-hop / dance). Utilising their previously learnt piano roll and basic editing skills,
students will become fluent in the process of creating hip-hop and dance beats (using GarageBand),
just like their favourite artists such as Kanye West, Drake, the Chainsmokers and Calvin Harris.
Prerequisites: Steps 3 and 4
This class is designed for students who already learn the piano and/or keyboard in private lessons.
Students will learn how to utilise MIDI (musical instrument digital interface) instruments and recording software.
At the end of the class, students will know how to set up and control musical software via MIDI, giving them the foundation to teach themselves further.
Audio software classes (age 15 above)
These are entry-level classes aimed at teaching beginner basics of sound recording utilising more advanced software programs such as Logic, Ableton or ProTools.
This class will provide students with fundamental musical interface skills in setting up sessions for use with MIDI and sound recording functionalities.
